Praise be to New Zealand and their amazing burgers! We were really hard-pressed to find a burger that we didn’t love while we were there!
One of the most renowned burger joints is the legendary Fergburger in Queenstown, so naturally we hit up the place to see what all the fuss was about.
Each time we had passed, there had been a line of people waiting outside, and the night we went to grab some dinner was no different. As we stood in the line, scanning the menu, the anticipation began to build. I couldn’t believe the burgers on this menu. They all sounded delicious. I wanted to try all of them!
Some notable (and entertaining) names on the menu include Mr. Big Stuff, Bun Laden, Holier Than Thou, The Morning Glory, Cock Cajun and The Codfather – just to name a few!
The one I opted for was the Sweet Bambi, which included a deer patty, Brie cheese, lettuce, tomato, boysenberry and caramelised onion chutney, Spanish onions and aioli! In short, it sounded ah-may-zing and I could not wait.
There was such a cool vibe as we were waiting. Everyone seemed excited, and those who had already been served seemed to be really enjoying their food. The smell was mouth-watering, and just increased both our hunger and our anticipation.
When we reached the front of the line and were able to enter the restaurant, I was able to take in the decor and appreciate both the funky interior and the speed and efficiency at which the staff operated.
The restaurant is, as I said, incredibly funky. There is even a guestbook to sign! There isn’t that much seating space, but that is understandable for a burger joint when most of their orders are take-away.
There were quite a few staff members working in the kitchen space behind the counter, and by God, they were on the ball! Yes, there is a wait time at Fergburger, but it is due to the sheer amount of orders rather than any fault of the staff.
Once we had ordered, we waited outside for our burgers to be prepared. It took about twenty minutes until our number flashed on the screen and we practically raced inside to collect the long-awaited meal.
I took out my burger, sighing in absolute appreciation of its beauty, and when I took my first bite, I was immediately transported to foodie heaven. The patty was succulent, the Brie had melted over everything, the chutney was perfectly sweet and balanced by the freshness of the tomato and the fresh onions. It was the most heavenly burger I had ever had the good fortune to taste.
Needless to say, we all demolished our burgers, pausing only to declare our delight and exclaim, “How fantastic are these!” or “This is delicious!” or “The best burger I have ever had!” Once we were done, we looked at each other and nodded, entirely satisfied and certain that we would never again taste such amazing burgers.
Thank you, Fergburger, for one of the best meals I have ever had in my life. And thank you for effectively ruining all other burgers for me for the rest of my days, because never will I have another burger quite like a Fergburger.
