Queenstown: A Brief Food Guide

There are some amazing places to eat in Queenstown.  This is a short compilation of my favourites from our time there.

Everywhere in NZ seems to do amazing burgers, but Fergburger is hailed as “the best”.  We had heard about this legendary culinary experience and each time we passed, there was a massive line out the front.

All the signs were encouraging us to try it out, and when we did, we were not disappointed!  Fergburger serves some absolutely delicious burgers, and there are some fantastic flavour combinations!

Expect a wait time in peak periods, but don’t worry – it is worthwhile!

Mrs Ferg’s

This ice-creamery is right next door to Fergburger and is part of the larger Ferg business.  Just as New Zealand does great burgers, they also do amazing gelato, so this (and other ice-creameries) are a must-visit.

There are two Mrs Ferg’s ice-creameries in Queenstown – the main one is located next to Ferburger, and there is another smaller one just by the lake.  This smaller gelateria also has a little cart which staff take out by the waterside.

Flame Bar and Grill

This restaurant is a meat-lover’s haven.  We had the ribs and they were absolutely delicious!  That being said, there are some vegetarian options available.  The meals here are hearty and the popularity of the restaurant is reflected in the fact that it is consistently busy.

The restaurant is lovely, the food is wonderful, and to top it all off, there is a fantastic view of the lake!  Get a table outside to make the most of the location.

The Winery

We went to The Winery for lunch one day and it was a fantastic decision!  We grabbed a bottle of wine and a couple of platters, which were absolutely delicious!  The knowledgeable and accommodating staff helped us to match the wine to our lunch and we were extremely satisfied once we had devoured the selection of cheeses, cold meats, crackers and honeycomb.

Wine tasting is also available here.  You can buy store credit and stop at different taps in the shop to fill up on any of the wines on offer.

The Winery is located away from the main drag, so you could miss it, but it is not difficult to locate and it is definitely worth a visit – or two!

Patagonia sells an array of chocolates, desserts and ice-creams, as well as coffee.  It is a chain of cafés, but the thing which is most special about the Queenstown branch is the incredible view from the second floor.

I mean, who wouldn’t want this view while enjoying a gelato?
